Talks halted: Trump accuses Canada of ‘interference’ with ‘fake’ ad

by admin477351

President Trump has halted all trade negotiations with Canada, accusing the nation of interference with a “fake” ad. The ad, sponsored by Ontario, featured a 1987 clip of Ronald Reagan .
Trump claimed on truth social that the ad was a “fraudulent” attempt to influence US supreme court hearings on his tariffs. “Canada cheated and got caught,” he wrote.
The ad was launched by Ontario premier Doug Ford to fight back against US tariffs, now at 35%. The ad quotes Reagan warning that tariffs “hurt every American worker and consumer.”
The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation has also spoken out, stating the ad “misrepresents” the former president’s comments with “selective audio” and was used without permission.
The suspension of talks, confirmed by secretary of state Marco Rubio, puts the c$3.6 billion daily trade flow at risk and complicates an upcoming review of the usmca.
