French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Mexico on November 7 for a brief but significant diplomatic trip focused on strengthening cultural and economic ties, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced during her Thursday morning press conference.
Sheinbaum said her government’s main priority during the talks will be the repatriation of pre-Hispanic codices currently held in France, which she described as “very important for Mexico’s heritage.” Macron will be accompanied by a delegation of French business leaders and is expected to meet with Mexican officials and entrepreneurs.
“The visit will be very brief, but we are preparing an agenda that includes both cultural and economic cooperation,” Sheinbaum stated. She added that she and Macron are likely to hold a joint press conference following their discussions.
The meeting comes amid ongoing trade negotiations between Mexico and the United States and follows Sheinbaum’s reaffirmation of Mexico’s opposition to recent U.S. military actions in the Pacific. Macron’s visit is expected to reinforce France’s diplomatic and business presence in Latin America while advancing Mexico’s push for the return of key historical artifacts.
